About Us

We are an outreach branch of the University of Tennessee, providing services and opportunities to the residents of Haywood County.

We are funded through a cooperative agreement between federal, state and county governments. All of our programs are offered to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, age, national origin, sex or disability and we are an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Haywood County is located in Southwest Tennessee. If traveling I-40, the county is east of Memphis (55 miles) and west of Jackson (25 miles). It is the top cotton producing county in the state. The county is the birthplace of singer Tina Turner and home of the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge. Annual events include the Memorial Day Exit 56 Blues Festival and Hatchie Fall Festival. The county has a population of 17,300 and has a land mass of 534 square miles . Two incorporated towns are located in the county, Brownsville (pop. 9400) it’s county seat and Stanton (pop. 425). Outlying communities include Douglas, Nutbush, Tibbs, Dancyville, Holly Grove, Hillville, Bailey, Friendship, Pilgrim Rest, Freedonia, Belle Eagle, Shepp, Union, and Lebanon.
